How to Properly Package a Parcel Before Sending It
Sending a parcel securely starts with proper packaging. Taking a few extra minutes to pack your item correctly helps prevent damage, delays, and additional charges. Follow these essential steps:
1. Choose the Right Box
- Use a strong, rigid cardboard box in good condition.
- Avoid using damaged or previously heavily used boxes.
- Make sure the box is the correct size — not too big and not too tight for the item.
2. Protect the Item Inside
- Wrap the item in bubble wrap, foam, or packing paper.
- Ensure at least 5 cm (2 inches) of cushioning on all sides.
- For fragile items, double wrap and clearly label the parcel as Fragile.
3. Fill Empty Spaces
- Fill any gaps with packing peanuts, crumpled paper, or air cushions.
- The item should not move when you gently shake the box.
4. Seal the Box Securely
- Use strong parcel tape (at least 48mm wide).
- Seal all openings using the H-taping method (across the middle seam and along the edges).
- Do not use string, masking tape, or duct tape.
5. Label Clearly
- Attach the shipping label flat on the top of the box.
- Ensure the address is clear, correct, and waterproof (use a document wallet if needed).
- Remove or cover any old labels or barcodes.
6. Check Weight & Restrictions
- Make sure the parcel meets the courier’s weight and size limits.
- Do not send prohibited or restricted items without checking the delivery company’s guidelines.
Proper packaging protects your item, ensures safe handling, and helps your parcel arrive on time and in perfect condition.
